How to write an academic CV
An academic CV is a selective record of your scholarly path, not an inflated employment CV. Good structure helps a committee verify your contributions quickly.
Published
Order sections for the opportunity
Research applications often lead with interests and publications, while teaching experience may lead for education-focused roles. Follow the stated evaluation criteria.
- State degree, field, institution and graduation year clearly.
- Separate peer-reviewed publications, conference work and work under review.
- List grants and awards with the body, year and your role in the application.
Make every record verifiable
Use one citation style and preserve published author order. Do not label accepted or submitted work as published; state its exact status.
Explain teaching and service
Name the course, level, your responsibility and class size where useful. For academic service, explain what you did instead of listing committee names alone.
